Unleash the Power of the Truth
Spiritual Direction
The Nineteenth Annotation
Saint Ignatius provided the nineteenth Annotation to those who might not be able to take the time from work to complete the Spiritual Exercises at a retreat. If you are one of those who desire a deeper relationship with Jesus but work requirements are preventing you from being part of an extended retreat, iLEAD will act as a Spiritual Director in accompanying you through the Exercises. What does it take? A reasonable amount of intelligence, an earnest desire to grow in Jesus and a daily commitment of time is all that is needed. How much time is needed? You, as the exercitant should commit to one and a half hours a day. Each morning, an hour should be dedicated to time with God in completing an exercise. At night, before retiring, the exercitant will set aside another half an hour to complete the Particular and General Examen (Examination of Conscious). Each week, we can meet personally, or video conferencing, to reflect on the previous week and go over the Spiritual Exercises to be completed the following week. Here is how Saint Ignatius explained the 19th Annotation:
A person taken up with public affairs or necessary business, and who is educated or intelligent, can set aside an hour and a half a day for the exercises. One can explain to such an exercitant about the end for which the human person is created, as well as giving for half the particular examen, then the general examen and the way of confessing and of receiving communion. On three days the exercitant can devote one hour each morning to the meditation on the first, second and third sins, then for three days at the same hour the meditation on the record of sins, and for another three days the meditation on the punishments, which correspond to sins. During these three sets of Meditations the ten additions should be given. For the mysteries of the life of Christ our Lord the same procedure should be followed, as is explained in detail further on in these same exercises.
Our fee is based on your income. iLEAD's hourly rate is one and a half times your hourly income. We plan to spend one to two hours a week with you either face to face or via video conferencing. Therefore, the fee is saying that I will cover my expenses for materials I will receive. In addition, if I am going to give up an hour and half's wage, I will commit to the Exercises.
